Crossing Swords

Crossing Swords

One duel. Easy money. Then Gil fell for his opponent.

A straight duel to the death. A professional opponent who’s paying him to win. This was going to be the easiest money Gil had ever earned. Except he never counted on his opponent being a woman. And he never counted on falling for her.

After avenging the brutal murder of her lover, all Lianon wants is to die a clean death. Too bad the man she hired doesn’t do women, and he’s furious over her deception. Not only does he renege on their contract, he has the gall to lock her up in his apartment—naked, no less!—to punish her for her ruse.

If she could just get her mind out of the gutter, she’d cut him a new smile. But ever since he saw through her boy’s clothes, all she can think about is getting him naked, too.

But just when she’s found something to live for, the father of her lover’s murderer surfaces. He wants Lianon to die screaming—and he’s all too happy to take Gil down with her.

Praise for Crossing Swords:

Saell’s world building is great- descriptive enough to get a good feel for the culture, the history, without info-dumping. With erotica, the characters can be pale, white-washed personalities, mainly used for the hawt sexxin. Saell builds real people with distinct motivations and believable personalities. I really enjoyed how the story crosses fantasy, adventure and romance genre boundaries, with a fairly suspenseful plot, great moments of action, and a sweet love story.

In short, Ms. Saell writes exactly the kind of book there needs to be more of, one that is both empowering and sexy. And she accomplishes more in a short novel than others can manage in an epic doorstopper. Yes, I’ll be following this series, and I recommend it to anyone who likes well-written fantasy romance or romance with subversive elements.

Kirsten Saell creates a stunning, clearly drawn world, with a cast of characters you can’t help but fall in love with. Clever dialogue and scorching sex make this the perfect antidote for cold winter nights—or boring summer ones.

A thoroughly delightful story. Gil and Lianon are nuanced and charming, and the story is full of wonderful surprises.

…the writing is superb… The first chapter is so good, ending with such a bang and a twist, you’re totally hooked… This is not a “worship the goddess” fantasy, but more a “slit the bastard’s throat in the night so I can get back to my lover” fantasy.

I must say, it was rather sizzling how these two go at it with each other in the beginning and just as enjoyable when they pair up against a foe… Crossing Swords moved along at very quick pace and was a fun, gritty, and exciting read. And I have to give huge kudos to author Kirsten Saell, who I think, came up with one of the most creative and interesting ways, that I’ve read, to get a lot of hot, juicy, plausible sex into the plot of a story. This book is worth reading just for that!

Like stepping into a fantasy world as real and fully-formed as our own.
